Introduction to the AERA Insurance Program
Aon Risk Solutions are AERA’s appointed insurance broker and the following notes have been produced to give members and clubs a summary of the cover provided but does not necessarily incorporate all the terms and conditions of the policy.
Cover has been structured based on AERA’s risk management procedures, rules and regulations and anyone acting outside these guidelines may prejudice their entitlement under the policy and be left uninsured.
It is imperative that accurate documentation be maintained by all covered persons and/or clubs to ensure protection under the policies outlined.
Australian Endurance Riders Association Inc (AERA) does not act as the Insurer’s agent and does not hold an Australian Financial Services License. AERA is therefore not authorised to provide you with any insurance advice so if you require any information about the insurance, please contact our broker, Aon Risk Solutions on 1800 806 493 or email them at equestrian@aon.com.au. Horse Insurance
While no one likes to think about the potential risks associated with working with horses, regardless of whether it’s a job, hobby or passion, experienced horse owners know how quickly this investment can be lost as a result of sickness, injury or disease. Additionally, your most prized possession can also be your biggest liability. Individual horse owners place themselves and their assets at risk every time their horse comes in contact with people. Equine related lawsuits can have a crippling effect. Don’t head down the wrong path, let Aon help get you on the right track.
Aon Equine Multi-cover is a comprehensive policy developed to help ease your financial loss due to injury, illness or disease to your horse and can be extended to protect against loss through equine related law suits, injury to yourself, property damage and theft.

All clubs have some form of contents, from normal furniture and fittings to portable arena’s, jumps, riding and/or other equipment. Whether you own or lease your grounds makes no difference in the event of damage to improvements such as buildings, as replacing them would most probably be at the club’s expense.

Event Cancellation Insurance
Event Cancellation Insurance covers for the loss of costs and expenses, or revenues that result from the cancellation, abandonment, postponement, interruption or relocation of an event (in whole or in part) due to uncontrollable circumstances.
Considering the time and money it takes to plan an event, the risks to the bottom line are substantial. When disaster strikes, event cancellation insurance protects against the loss of costs and expenses or revenues for a small fraction of that exposure.

Risk Management
There are a number of benefits of an effective risk management program and all are equally important.
Firstly, when an insurance company assesses both the premium and the acceptance of a cover, the factors that control their decision are the class of risk and the claims experience of the client, in this case the Equine Industry as a whole, then more importantly each individual association such as AERA. It is not only the size of the claims but the frequency and number of claims which will be taken into consideration.
Secondly, serious injuries not only affect the injured person but can impact on their family and friends as well. We have seen examples in the media of the trauma that these people experience and the effect on their quality of life. The financial impact is only one part of the problem but the social impact on the community is far reaching.
Aon has arranged for an information kit to be forwarded to your club in an effort to assist in this process.
