IMPORTANT NOTICE - BUCHAN TALL TIMBER ENDURANCE RIDE NEXT WEEKEND

After a lot of soul-searching and number-crunching we have decided to cancel Friday's riding events, leaving only the standard single day of riding which will be on Saturday.

The major reason that Friday has been cancelled is financial.  Despite a positive response earlier to our proposal, now we did not have close to enough entries to justify running the extra day.  Thank you so much for bothering to pre-nom - some more formally than others - it makes a huge difference to know that you care enough to do so!  To those of you who have showed enthusiasm to match our own, please understand that we didn't take this decision lightly and that our frustration will match yours!

Finalised information will still be emailed to you all but we are planning along these lines:
- rider entries being taken Friday afternoon
- pre-ride briefing Friday evening
- pre-ride vetting early Saturday morning in stages as per distance entered
- mid-morning starts for the events.
- presentations Sunday morning

Apologies for any inconvenience caused with this change in plans, please let me know if you are unable to attend BTT at all due to this change.  Pre-nom deposits will be fully credited to the Saturday events or refunded as appropriate.  Many thanks on behalf of the TERA mob (Tambo Endurance Riders Assoc.)

VERA Secretary New Email Address:  secretaryvera@gmail.com

VERA Quilty Team: Expressions of Interest  are invited for VERA Quilty Team. If you are attending the Quilty in June, why not nominate to be on the VERA Quilty Team. Nominations to be received by the VERA Secretary before April 30th.

PIC Number Amnesty:  All riders need to please apply for your PICs (Property Identification Codes) if you haven't already done so. The VERA SMC would like to advise Ride Organisers that an amnesty for riders obtaining their PICs is in place until June 30 2013.  After this date, it will be NO PIC, NO RIDE.

Day Members:  If you are a financial member of the Arabian Horse Society of Australia (AHSA) or Pony Club (PCAV), and you present your current Membership Card at time of entry, you will be exempt from paying the Day Membership fee of $10.

IMPORTANT NOTICE - PROPERTY IDENTIFICATION CODES (PICs):

It is now an entry requirement for ALL riders (full members and day members), when entering ANY endurance ride (social/intro, training, and open endurance) to have a PIC from the property where their horses are kept. 

(It is also law that “As of July 1st, 2010, Victorian property owners who have horses residing on their land must obtain a Property Identification Code (PIC)”.)

If you do not already have a PIC number, please ensure you apply ASAP, as it can take some time to receive your PIC from the DPI.

VERA has included a PIC Information Sheet and a PIC Application Form on the website for your convenience (see below).

Owners of horses that reside on an agistment property do not need to apply for a PIC. However, you should ensure that the owner of the property does have one, and be able to provide this number on the ride entry form.

There is no cost to apply for, or receive, a PIC.

NOTICES FROM THE SMC MEETING - 9 February 2013:

Logbooks: Members are reminded that with the introduction of the “new” AERASpace Data System you are required to make sure each horse with a logbook is entered on the system prior to attending its first ride for the year. All details must be entered onto the new database by Bronwyn prior to your proposed first ride of the year. This is in addition to the yearly/lifetime registration requirements.  Contact Bronwyn Cuthbertson (VERA Logbook Registrar) for more information.

TPRs: Accredited and Probationery TPR Stewards who are willing to volunteer at rides are asked to contact Geoff Jolly  (TPR Co-ordinator) so that he can update their contact details, to be forwarded on to Ride Organisers.

Kilmore Ride:  The SMC has approved an 80k endurance ride to be run in conjuction with the FEI ride to be held in Kilmore by Pegasus Endurance on the week end of 23/24^th February.

Day Membership: the Day Membership fee effective from 9^th February is $10

NOTICE FROM THE LOGBOOK REGISTRAR - ANNUAL LOGBOOK RETURNS:

A reminder to all members intending to compete during 2013. Please submit your LOGBOOK RETURN to the VERA Logbook Registrar before you plan to compete.

The Logbook Return should be completed for any horse that you currently own or are agent for, that holds a logbook - novice and endurance.

You risk not being able to compete in an open (80km or over) ride during 2013 if the Logbook Registrar has not updated your horse information on the new AERASpace system.

As with all new things, nothing is perfect and your logbook holding horse may not have correct information on AERASpace for it to enter an open ride.

Submission of a LOGBOOK RETURN ensures that your horse data is correct for competition during 2013.

The LOGBOOK RETURN form can be found on the VERA website in the Stationery section under forms For The Horse (or click on any highlighted link in this notice), and it should be forwarded to the address on the form.

Updated ANNUAL LOGBOOK RETURN form:

It is a requirement of AERA that registered members of each state division complete an Annual Horse Logbook Return. This Annual Logbook Return should list all horses that each member has registered in their name.  Members should state the status of their horses - active, retired, sold, deceased.  This information will now be recorded on the new AERASpace database.  When completed, please return this form to the Logbook Registrar, as indicated on the form.  (If you have already sent the old form, don't worry, this will still be accepted).
