AERA Hall of Fame Inductee – Kim Calway
Kim Calway was accepted into the AERA Hall of Fame on by SAERA.
I started endurance riding in 1998 after years in the racing scene, with 2 young kids and an OTT TB gelding we hit the trails.
I am a great believer in the underdog and have shown that any horse can achieve great things with the right training. I have competed on Arabs, part breds, Anglos, TB’s and who knows what breeding horses. My favourites have actually been the Morgan crosses, Menora Moon Dance and Springridge Elite.
I have had many personal highlights but one of my favourites was finishing =2nd in the 2018 Scottsdale Quilty on Mizzi Couger, and taking out national LWT points horse. He was a $500 purchase, he completed over 3000 km with a Shahzada completion to his name.
Even better than my own personal achievements, was watching my kids grow and excel in this great sport.
After having neck surgery following a car accident in 2018, I have slowed down a lot but my bucket list includes gaining 10 Quilty buckles, currently the tally is 7 from 11 attempts, and a Mil Lel Marathon. I am hoping I will still be going for at least another 20 years.
My mantra is “ Don’t ask why, say why not!”
